Activating a Windows Server cloud instance

When you install a Windows Server operating system, the product key – also known as a KMS (Key Management Service) or MAK (Multiple Activation Key) key – may need to be changed to operate in the DSM Miruma Cloud.

This guide will show you how to change the product key for your Windows Server environment.


  • a dedicated server with Windows installed
  • the appropriate Windows SPLA license found below
  • access to your server via remote desktop or console connection


To modify the existing product key installed, run the following commands from an elevated command prompt.

Uninstall the default product key

Run the following command to uninstall any existing product key:

cscript.exe c:\windows\system32\slmgr.vbs -upk

Install the new product key

Run the following command to install the new product key:

cscript.exe c:\windows\system32\slmgr.vbs -ipk <insert PRODUCT KEY>

 Core versions use the same product keys as non-core versions.

Associate your product key

To associate your key with our automated activation system, run the following command:

cscript.exe c:\windows\system32\slmgr.vbs -skms

Activate the system

Finally, to activate your Windows operating system, run the following command:

cscript.exe c:\windows\system32\slmgr.vbs -ato
