Installing OpenStack CLI Client on Ubuntu 14.04 and Ubuntu 16.04

Before you install the OpenStack CLI tools, you must install Python and the required compiler packages on Ubuntu.

Follow the steps given below to install Python and the required compiler packages.

Install prerequisits

  1. Update the list of available packages.
  2. apt-get -y update
  3. Install GNU compiler library (GCC), Python, and the dependent libraries.
  4. apt-get -y install gcc libffi-dev libssl-dev python python-dev python-virtualenv virtualenvwrapper


Install OpenStack CLI

Follow the steps given below to install OpenStack CLI on your prepared Ubuntu installation.

  1. Load virtualenv variables.
  2. source /usr/share/virtualenvwrapper/virtualenvwrapper.sh
  3. Create a virtual environment.
  4. mkvirtualenv os_cli
  5. Upgrade pip to the latest version.
  6. pip install pip --upgrade
  7. Run following command to set up OpenStack CLI.
  8. pip install --upgrade --requirement http://raw.githubusercontent.com/platform9/support-locker/master/openstack-clients/requirements.txt --constraint http://raw.githubusercontent.com/openstack/requirements/stable/newton/upper-constraints.txt
